| The Hinze Dam was initially built in 1976 and upgraded in 1989 to a water storage capacity of 161,000 million litres. In 2008 the Hinze Dam stage 3 upgrade was initiated to improve the existing infrastructure and double storage capacity. The new dam height will also provide flood mitigation for residents living downstream in the Nerang river area. The Hinze Dam stage 3 upgrade will ensure an adequate water supply to the Gold Coast for the next 50 years. As part of the upgrade BAUER Foundations Australia Pty Ltd was awarded the contract to construct a low strength concrete wall within the rock of the right abutment. The cut off wall will stop current and predicted seepage that would occur once the dam reached the new dam height of 108.5m. |
